Colorblock Helen's Closet Ashton Top Colorblock Helen's Closet Ashton Top

This is a Helen's Closet Ashton Top in size 12 (should likely go up a size next time) with facings, the cropped version, with an inch added for height, so it just baaaarely shows a bit of midriff. It’s the Colorblock Hack from the blog made with medium-weight linen from Fabricsstore.com in a mix of scraps from previous projects: lagoon, folkstone gray, natural, and mix natural. I hand-tacked the facing down in a few key spots around the neck/arm openings to keep it in place.

Sew Liberated Hinterland Dress w Puff Sleeves Hack Sew Liberated Hinterland Dress w Puff Sleeves Hack

This is a size 16 Sew Liberated Hinterland Dress, graded out to an 18. 1.5" added in length to the skirt and bodice length, bust apex moved down 1/2", and a 1/2" narrow shoulder adjustment (not my fav, need to revert). Plus, alllll the French Seams and the puffed sleeves hack. And three modified sine waves embroidered along the bottom. Fabric is double cotton gauze from Mood Fabrics. This fabric is like a cloud. Yes, more secret pajamas!

This is essentially a wearable toile for the Creative Hinterland class. I have a muslin toile for version 1 with two different styles of sleeves on it somewhere...

MeMade Clothing: Sashiko Embroidered Free Range Slacks

Sunday, March 31, 2024

I had my camera on the wrong zoom setting today, so this partial torso, partial leg combo is what we get!

These are size ~12 Sewhouse 7 Free Range Slacks with 3" added in length to the calf, and another 1" at the cuff. 1.5" or so cut off the top to make them mid-rise. The next pair needs a shorter span of elastic and a rather heavy full seat adjustment, as the back tends to fall down when I bend over. I added some Sashiko-style embroidery to the side panels. I’m thinking slate blue might’ve been a little less mariachi-inspired? 🤣

Made with some Mood Fabrics Cotton Twill - never have I encountered a fabric more likely to attract animal fluff than this material.

Not-so-secret secret pajamas?

Self-Drafted Wide Leg Pants

These pants are new, drafted from a pair of Target RTW linen pants I love, but in a muuuuuch better quality linen from FabricsStore.com (medium-weight, lagoon).

Next time I need to bring the back piece to the same height as the front, and then do a 4.5" full seat adjustment, to make the top of the seat less weird. I also need to wait to cut the waistband until the pants are assembled, so I can cut it the right width (pay no attention to the back waist darts & the gathered pockets I did to accommodate my too short waistband!). I think another 0.5" or 1" added to the rise, might allow these to hang a little lower in the crotch area as well. And then there's the slash pockets...they're super shallow. So instead of a 2"x8" corner, I'm going to try a 2"x6" corner cut off.

MeMade Clothing: Flannel Dani Pants in Rust Herringbone

Sunday, March 17, 2024

These are size 14 True Bias Dani Pant with a moderate full seat adjustment, grading to a 8 in the legs, 3" added to the length (at the bottom), and an inch taken off the top to make them mid-rise. Dropped the pocket facing, skipped extra rows of elastic sewing, and added some pocket detail. In rust-colored herringbone from Joann Fabrics.

Yes, the fabric pills, but I pretty much wear these nonstop all winter long. Classic secret pajamas!

Similar to the blue flannel herringbone version, but with some size adjustments and thinning through the thigh.

Sewing a Spinning Wheel Cover

Sunday, March 10, 2024

I've been randomly swathing my spinning wheels in this lovely JoAnn Fabrics pre-quilted fabric for a couple years now, to keep the dust and cats out. 'Seemed like high time to make the cover a little more formal. Now it looks like I have a little floral torso sitting in the craft room, lol.

Having the little head piece on top makes the wheel easier to move while still covered, as the mother-of-all is easier to see and grab. I've been debating making a ripstop carrying bag for awhile, but realized I don't travel with my wheels that often, so a nicer cover for when they sit at home makes a lot more sense.

I improvised by measuring the widest portion of each dimension, rounded up, and added an inch for seam allowance. This approach has made the cover reverseible, so I don't have to always have the wider end covering the wheel. Not sure how I feel about it. Sewed with a 3/8" seam allowance, and finished the raw edges with a zigzag stitch. Bottom edge is finished with bias binding from leftover quilting cotton.
